Imperial Valley residents are urged to dig a little deeper to help out next Wednesday during the annual Red Shoe Day sponsored by the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego.
The three-hour event which runs from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. will be featured at various intersections in El Centro, Calexico, Holtville, Imperial and Brawley, said Jan Hester, community liaison for the Imperial Valley.
Ronald McDonald House Charities provides homes for families to stay close enough to their children who are hospitalized. Hester said 25 percent of the children that receive help from the charity come from the Imperial Valley.
Red Shoe Day is a fundraiser where people are asked to make monetary donations by filling up the size-13 shoe typically worn by the Ronald McDonald character of the fast-food franchise.
There is a cupcake sale today at 8 a.m. at the park in Holtville that will also feature games and prizes, Hester said. Patrons can donate whatever they can at the event, she said.
Anyone wanting to volunteer or ask questions can call Hester at 760-554-0534.
“Wednesday,” Hester said. “That’s our big day.”
