Flames tore through a wood-frame home on East Worthington Road on Tuesday, a fire official said.
A passerby alerted firefighters to the blaze at 8:15 a.m. and crews from Holtville and Imperial County fire departments rushed to the home in the 1000 block of East Worthington Road, said Holtville Fire Chief Alex Silva.
A couple who lived at the home was not there when flames destroyed the structure, Silva said.
The cause behind the fire was not immediately known as it is under investigation, he said.
