U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich) will tour two farms Monday to discuss her support for Michigan growers and her bipartisan Farm Bill.

The senator will be at the Hope Hills blueberry farm in Bangor at 11:10 a.m. and at the May Farms apple orchard in Sparta at 2:30 p.m.

Sen. Stabenow is the chair of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry. Her Farm Bill was passed by the Senate two weeks ago and is now awaiting action in the House.

The Farm Bill makes sure disaster assistance is available this year for fruit growers who were impacted by the early frost, though farmers can get help while the bill awaits final approval. It also strengthens crop insurance to better protect farmers from disasters in the future.

Sen. Stabenow also led an effort to make low-interest loans available to fruit growers impacted by weather. To get help, farmers should contact their local Farm Services Agency.
