Known to nearly everyone as "Red", Marion "Red" Betten passed away Thursday, May 26. His passing comes after a brief struggle with lung cancer.
Red was known throughout the community for his automotive entriprises, having been in the West Michigan auto industry for nearly 60 years. He opened his first dealership in the mid-60's, and grew his collection of dealerships to offer 17 aut brands through dealerships in three West Michigan towns.
“Mr. Betten is a true patriarch in every sense of the word to not only his family but this entire organization” says Holly McGavin, Controller for Betten Imports. “He offered sage advice, wisdom, and an acute understanding of the car business. This is an incredible loss but his legacy will survive. We owe that to him.”
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Directors at 4646 Kalamazoo Southeast in Kentwood.
