GRAND RAPIDS—Uncle Kracker and Boys Like Girls will perform at the second annual New Year's on the Grand celebration.
Citadel Broadcasting announced the event will feature a ball drop in Rosa Parks Circle in downtown Grand Rapids at midnight December 31 to ring in 2010. And, just like last year, the celebration is free.
Uncle Kracker, whose real name is Matthew Schafer, is from Mount Clemens, Mich. He started his career as the DJ for Kid Rock. His solo career includes hits like "Follow Me" and "Drift Away," and he currently has a song climbing the charts called, "Smile."
Boys Like Girls is a band from Boston who just released their second album, "Love Drunk." Their first hit was "Love Drunk," plus they enjoyed sucess with "Two is Better than One," featuring country singer Taylor Swift, whose just dominated the Country Music Awards..
New Year's on the Grand will begin start at 5:30 p.m. and run well into the morning of New Year's Day. Citadel says about 20,000 people attended the downtown party last year, and they are planning to handle a bigger crowd this time.
"We are excited to be bringing in world class entertainment for the event again this year," said Citadel Regional President Matt Hanlon.
New this year: families can take advantage of a heated, interactive space at the Grand Rapids Arts Museum specifically for families with kids 10 and under.
Free parking will be available at lots outside the city with free shuttles transporting people into downtown Grand Rapids.
