A man who prosecutors said left his 85-year-old mother to live in horrible conditions and lie in her own waste was given a suspended sentence of up to five months in jail, plus probation and community service.

Muskegon County Circuit Judge Timothy Hicks is issued the sentence Friday morning to Mark Anderson, 51, of Muskegon. The sentence also included 30 months probation, 200 hours of community service, and psychological counseling.

Anderson had pleaded no contest to second-degree abuse of a vulnerable adult. A no-contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated as one at sentencing.

Police said they found Lucille Anderson last year on a couch in the home she shared with her son.

Authorities said Mark Anderson had not bathed her in more than a year and her skin had started to deteriorate from acid made by her own waste.
