Nine area bicyclists helped raise money for clean water projects in Africa by riding 200 miles from South Haven to Detroit on Saturday.

The riders on the Active Water Double Century Ride left South Haven at 5 a.m. Saturday and arrived in Detroit to complete the benefit ride Saturday night. They raised enough money to build a well in Zambia and provide clean, safe drinking water for an entire village.

The riders described the 200-mile trek as " exhausting and demanding on all accounts, providing an obvious physical connection to the challenges those without clean water access face every day."
