Spring break trips typically involve sun and fun, but a group of students from West Catholic and Catholic Central High School are doing something a little different.
They're taking a mission trip to Haiti.
"This is my first mission trip. My friends have gone before and liked it, so I thought it would be fun," said Katy Miller, a junior at West Catholic.
The girls spent Sunday packing up large red bins with medical supplies, food, and toys for their trip to a village in Haiti that was destroyed by the 2010 earthquake.
Tim Ryan with the group Haiti Needs You, is organizing the student mission trip.
"People are still living in tents in Haiti and there is a lot that can be done to help," said Ryan.
The group of 14, including 9 students is leaving from Grand Rapids on Wednesday and will return next month.
On their mission, they'll complete three projects which include building latrines, monitoring water filter systems, and attaching tarps to shelters.
"I'm looking forward to going to the orphanage and meeting the kids," said Miller.
