GRAND RAPIDS—You can help feed the hungry in West Michigan and all it takes is a Facebook account and the click of a mouse.
Wal-mart recently launched a Facebook competition where the area with the most votes will receive 1 million dollars to feed the hungry.
The Grand Rapids area was number one recently, beating out a lot of major markets, until Fresno California bumped the area to number two.
Now, local advocates are asking for your help to log on and vote. It's pretty easy, and social networkers with local non-profits even created an easy URL to get to the site. It's called: www.fighthungergr.org. You just need a facebook account to vote.
The director of Feeding America in Comstock Park which delivers two million pounds of food each month to the hungry says, it's needed more now than ever.
"The numbers of people seeking help is so large that it has really tapped a lot of organization out, so this would be an incredible boost," said John Arnold.
The voting continues through December 31st. The winner receives one million dollars, and the other top five vote getters will receive $100,000.
