KENT CITY—A Christmas Eve fire destroyed a mobile home Saturday morning in Kent City.
Kent City/Tyrone Township Fire Chief Mike Rexford told FOX 17 NEWS that the mobile home at 650 22 Mile Road NW was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at the scene at 8:20 a.m. Saturday. There were no injuries to occupants or firefighters as a man and a dog were able to get out of the home safely.
Firefighters from Sand Lake and Solon Township assisted the Kent City/Tyrone Township Fire Department at the scene.
Rexford said firefighters' efforts were hampered by icy road conditions, which slowed their arrival and caused a tanker truck to become stuck en route to the fire.
He said there had been several additions to the original mobile home, and that their construction made it "extremely difficult" to fight the flames.
Rexford said the mobile home was a total loss. He has not yet come up with a damage estimate.
22 Mile Road was closed to traffic while firefighters battled the blaze. The roadway has since been reopened and firefighters have cleared the scene.
