The Detroit Red Wings went on a historic run: only eight NHL teams have come back from a 3-0 deficit to play a game seven in the playoffs.  With more than a dozen guys who played for the Grand Rapids Griffins, Thursday night was a big night in Hockeytown West.

The Griffins season is over, so the "Voice of the Griffins" is coaching baseball.   Bob Kaser is excited about former Griffins coming up big against the San Jose Sharks.  "The connection to the wWngs is a great thing," Kaser told FOX 17 News.  "Obviously, the Wings are not just hugely popular in Michigan, but throughout the world, and for us to be directly associated with them is just a great thing."

The Wings fell 3-2 to the Sharks Thursday, ending their hopes for another Stanley Cup this season.  Still,
Kaser is especially proud of goalie Jimmy Howard, who made some big plays to keep the Wings in it.  He gets fired up about several other guys, recalling some highlights of Game 6.  "To hear people talking about ex-Griffins like Nik Kronwall, you know, loved watching him - he turned Dany Heatley into a human dasherboard ad the other night.  Jonathon Ericsson gets robbed by Niemi earlier in the game then, not to be denied, gets a goal and starts the comeback for the wings, and Darren Helm empty netter and Filppula with the great play to tie the game the other night, the game winner, the connection is awesome."
