2007 Maryland School Assessment

Baltimore County

Elementaries show modest, steady progress

Baltimore County's elementary school students overall scored slightly above state averages in this year's reading and math assessments and showed steady, if modest, gains countywide. But a significant gap remains between the county's lowest- and highest-performing schools, according to preliminary results of this year's statewide assessments released yesterday.

In city, big gains shown in math for 4th through 6th grades

Fourth- through sixth-graders in Baltimore public schools showed double-digit gains in math on state assessment tests, a dramatic improvement city schools officials attribute to a new curriculum, a relatively stable school year and a practice exam given before the test modeled after the state's version.

Arundel MSA scores make moderate gains

Overall, Anne Arundel County elementary school students seem to be performing well in terms of reading and math, according to Maryland School Assessment test scores released yesterday.

Howard Co. MSA scores rise slightly

Maybe it has been the years of emphasis Howard County schools have placed at the pre-school and kindergarten level. It could be increased interventions -- one school suggests that offering more field trips increases vocabulary. One thing is for sure: fourth-graders in the county recorded the biggest increases on this year's Maryland School Assessments.

Harford Co. makes gains in MSA scores

Students in Harford County elementary schools made modest gains in math and reading according to results of Maryland School Assessment tests released yesterday.

MSA scores increase throughout Carroll Co.

Fourth-graders at Gamber's Mechanicsville Elementary are the first group in the Carroll County school system to report a 100 percent pass rate on the reading and math tests of the Maryland School Assessment, according to results released yesterday.
