Carroll County school officials are scheduled to host several community meetings next week, giving parents the chance to talk with various staff members.

Superintendent Charles I. Ecker and school board President Barbara Shreeve plan to hold a town meeting Tuesday at the newly opened Manchester Valley High School, at 3300 Maple Grove Road in the Manchester area. The event, which begins at 7 p.m., represents a chance for an open dialogue with the community and parents, according to school officials.

Also Tuesday, a special-education parents forum is to take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Carroll County Career and Technology Center in Westminster. The session will allow parents to discuss services, as well as their child's Individual Education Plan, with special-education administrators.

The school system also plans to host a fall minority family forum from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at West Middle School in Westminster. The forum will focus on motivating students, and will provide parents with tips on encouraging their children to succeed.

The West Middle session follows a series of forums that allowed parents and others to be heard and to suggest ways for the school system to help them with issues such as parenting, race, religion, education, economics and culture. Other minority family forums have also served as a chance to distribute information, and make the system more accessible.
