The Maryland Food Bank and state schools Superintendent Nancy S. Grasmick will recognize students at a Kids Helping Kids awards ceremony Thursday for collecting food and raising money for the hungry. Students from 571 schools around the state helped collect 413,129 pounds of food and $56,557 for food banks during the Harvest for the Hungry Campaign. Two Anne Arundel County schools led the way in donations: South River High School collected almost 7,500 pounds of food, while Davidsonville Elementary School collected almost $12,700 in donations. The campaign is a three-week service project that helps students learn about hunger while collecting food and donations for their local food banks. The ceremony will be held at the Maryland State Department of Education headquarters in Baltimore.
