State troopers have released the names of two brothers involved in a fatal boating accident on Matanuska Lake Friday morning. Authorities have recovered the body of one man, while the other is missing and presumed drowned.
Trooper received a report at about 10:20 a.m. that boaters on the lake had found an unoccupied and overturned canoe, as well as the body of 70-year-old Michael Francis of Pocatello, Idaho.
"Investigation revealed the canoe was rented to Francis' brother, Randy Francis, 55, of Palmer," troopers wrote in an AST dispatch late Friday. "Both were seen in the canoe earlier."
Members of the Mat-Su Borough dive team retrieved Michael Francis' body, and a search is continuing Friday for the body of Randy Francis. Neither were believed to be wearing life jackets.
