Cordish Cos. building hotel in complex adjacent to Cardinals' Busch Stadium

The Cordish Companies, the Baltimore-based developer of the Live entertainment and casino complexes, has begun building a $65 million hotel in St. Louis, Mo., inside a complex adjacent to Busch Stadium, the company said Tuesday.

The Live branded hotel flagged by Loews Hotels & Co. will anchor the $260 million second phase of Ballpark Village, a mixed-use dining and entertainment district developed by The Cordish Cos. and the St. Louis Cardinals.

The 216-room upscale hotel, along with restaurants, bars and event spaces, is expected to open in the first quarter of 2020. It will be the second Live by Loews hotel. The first is underway in Arlington, Texas, in the Arlington Entertainment District outside the Texas Rangers ballpark, and represents an expansion of the Loews chain into St. Louis and a continued expansion in the Midwest.

"Loews Hotels & Co is one of the most respected hoteliers in North America and their involvement is a tremendous coup for Ballpark Village and the City of St. Louis,” said Blake Cordish, vice president of The Cordish Cos., in a statement. “Live! by Loews - St. Louis, Mo. represents a partnership between three great companies, brands and families. Today’s celebration is a major step forward in transforming Ballpark Village into a vibrant 24/7 neighborhood for downtown St. Louis.”
