The Iron Man will head to his old stomping grounds Friday to comment on his mother's recent abduction and return.
Cal Ripken Jr., a Hall of Fame former Oriole, will meet with reporters at 10 a.m. at the B&O Warehouse at Oriole Park at Camden Yards to answer questions related to Violet Ripken's July 24 abduction on behalf of his famous family, according to John Maroon, a family spokesman.
"Mr. Ripken will serve as his family's spokesperson, and no other members of the Ripken family will be commenting on the abduction moving forward," Maroon wrote about the news conference. "He will not be available for one-on-one interviews, and he will be unable to answer questions directly relating to the ongoing investigation."
Ripken told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Friday that his 74-year-old mother is doing "pretty well" and has been comforted by family members since her kidnapping last week.
The Hall of Fame infielder said his mother is a tough woman, but her sense of security has been violated. He says she has not yet returned to her Aberdeen home.
The purpose of the conference is about "keeping the pressure on" the suspect, Maroon said.
"Cal's basically going to make a plea for people to keep looking," Maroon said.
Violet "Vi" Ripken was bound and abducted from her longtime Harford County home for about 12 hours in her own car by an unidentified man, then returned home, police said.
Few details of the investigation have been made available by the Aberdeen police force in recent days.
Lt. Fred Budnick, the spokesman for Aberdeen police, released no new information in the case Wednesday or Thursday, though he said there was "a very active investigation."
Police released a 35-second surveillance video and a sketch of the suspect Tuesday.
Harford County State's Attorney Joseph I. Cassilly has said police must find the right balance of information to release so as not to lead the potential suspect to destroy evidence or intimidate witnesses.
