A tractor trailer carrying scrap metal overturned on the I-695 ramp from Hollins Ferry Road to the inner loop injuring the driver, who has been hospitalized, Maryland State Police said.

The accident happened shortly before 8 a.m. and the Maryland State Highway Administration said it expects the ramp to be closed for several hours. As of 11:45 a.m., the ramp remained closed.

The metal will have to be offloaded from the truck, highway spokesman David Buck said. The company that operates the trailer is sending another vehicle to remove the scrap.

Police said no other vehicles were involved in the accident, but had no further information immediately available about the cause of the accident or the status of the injured.
