Police-involved crash sends 2 to hospital in Howard Co.

A Howard County police sergeant and a 51-year-old woman were injured in a two-vehicle accident Monday night on Baltimore National Pike, according to the department.

Sgt. Roch DeFrances, a 23-year veteran of the Howard County police department, was traveling westbound on Baltimore National Pike in his police cruiser, a 2012 Dodge Charger, shortly after 10:30 p.m. when he collided with a 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe that turned into his path at Marriottsville Road, police said.

The police vehicle had a green light, and the Santa Fe failed to yield the right of way, turning from the eastbound lanes of Baltimore National Pike, according to police.

The driver of the Santa Fe, Euijeong Lee, of the 2200 block of Bromley Court in Woodstock, was transported by ambulance to Howard County General Hospital, police said. She has since been discharged.

DeFrances was taken by ambulance to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, according to police, where he was listed in serious but stable condition Tuesday night.
