Motorcyclist, 25, killed after colliding with a car in Howard Co.

A 25-year-old motorcyclist was killed Wednesday night after colliding with a car in Howard County.

Police identified the motorcyclist as Devan Cheatham Jones of the 3800 block of Thoroughbred Lane in Owings Mills.

According to police, Jones was driving a 2010 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle on the westbound ramp from Route 100 to northbound Route 29 around 9:49 p.m. Wednesday when his motorcycle hit the rear of a 2011 Toyota Camry that was slowing because of a traffic backup. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police, the single occupant of the Toyota was uninjured. He was identified as Mutungi Tumusiime, 36, of the 6600 block of Park Heights Ave. in Baltimore.

Officers reported that the motorcycle operator was wearing a motorcycle helmet at the time of the accident. Their preliminary investigation indicated that excessive speed on the part of the motorcycle operator and failure to reduce speed were the primary causes of the accident.
