Fire damages Columbia apartment on Saturday afternoon

Howard County firefighters took 15 minutes to extinguish a fire in a garden-style apartment in Columbia on Saturday afternoon, according to authorities.

The fire was reported about 12:40 p.m. in a third story apartment in the 6000 block of Majors Lane. Several occupants got out safely before firefighters arrived, a department spokesman said. No one was injured the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
