A head-on collision of two cars in western Howard County sent both drivers to Maryland Shock Trauma Center Thursday afternoon, according to Howard County fire and rescue services.
About 3 p.m., a 2011 Chevrolet Aveo was being driven east on Route 108 near the Montgomery County line when it crossed the center line and collided with a 1999 GMC Yukon traveling west.
A woman driving the Aveo, whom police have not identified, and the driver of the Yukon, identified as Lawrence Harris, 57, of the 10000 block of Prince Charles Court in Upper Marlboro, were taken by Maryland State Police medevac helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma.
There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Police said Harris and the other driver were both in "stable" condition.
The woman's identity was being withheld pending notification of her family, police said.
The accident closed the roadway for about three hours. It was reopened about 6 p.m., police said.
The collision is still under investigation, but the cause appeared to be failure by the woman to keep her vehicle right of the center line, police said.
Further information could not be immediately determined.
