Bel Air teen Richardson indicted, charged with killing father

Sixteen-year-old Robert C. Richardson III was indicted Tuesday on murder charges in the January death of his father.

The Harford County Grand Jury indicted the Bel Air teen, who has been held without bond in the Harford County Detention Center. Richardson has been charged with first- and second-degree murder as well as the use of a handgun during the commission of a crime.

Harford County State's Attorney Joseph Cassilly would say little about the case late Tuesday.

"A lot of speculation about a motive has surrounded this case from the outset; [it] was thoroughly investigated by sheriff's detectives and the state's attorney's investigator and their findings were presented to the Grand Jury that made the decision to indict," Cassily said in a statement.

Scheduling a trial date is the next step in the case, Cassily said. He declined to provide more information on a motive or evidence at this time.

According to Cassilly's office, state law says a 16-year-old murder suspect is to be tried as an adult.

Police say Richardson confessed to the Jan. 9 killing of his 58-year-old father, Robert C. Richardson Jr. Richardson led police to the body in an Aberdeen pond, according to police.
