Frostburg University police to patrol city streets after deaths

Frostburg State University says campus police will patrol nearby city streets after two students were slain off-campus in the last two years.

University and city officials said Thursday that the school also will give the city of Frostburg $200,000 a year to increase the size and salaries of the city police force.

The agreement was first reported Wednesday by the Cumberland Times-News.

Officials say the deal will dramatically increase the law-enforcement response capacity.

In November, sophomore Kortneigh McCoy of Baltimore was fatally stabbed off-campus. Fellow student Shanee Liggins of Waldorf is charged with first-degree murder in the case.

In April 2010, student Tyrone Hall of Glen Burnie fatally shot Frostburg State basketball player Brandon Carroll of Waldorf. Hall was sentenced to five years for manslaughter.
