Members of the Baltimore County Police Executive Corps have agreed to higher pension contributions and less sick time in exchange for job security over the next three years.
Under the agreement, announced Tuesday by County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, the members are guaranteed no layoffs or furloughs between fiscal years 2013 and 2015.
The bargaining unit is made up of 34 sworn officers ranked captain and above. They are not unionized.
As part of the deal, current members will contribute an additional 1 percent of their salaries to their pensions starting July 1. They now contribute between 7 and 8 percent.
Those promoted to the Executive Corps after July 1 would have to contribute 10 percent of their salary to the retirement system.
Beginning in January 2013, members will accrue 11 days of sick leave per year, instead of 15 days.
But starting in 2015, they will receive more service credit for unused sick time — one month for every 16 days of unused sick time, rather than the current 22 days. Service credit is used to calculate pension benefits.
Kamenetz chief of staff Don Mohler said the agreement is meant to protect employee jobs and benefits. He added that the administration has made a similar offer to the Baltimore County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 4, but that the offer has not yet been accepted.
