Holabird Middle student charged as juvenile for 'starter pistol'

Perry Hall High School

An 11-year-old student was charged with bringing a deadly weapon to Holabird Middle School, after a "starter pistol" that shoots blanks was found inside his locker, Baltimore County police said.

The student has been charged as a juvenile and faces disciplinary action by school administrators.

Police said another student informed the principal that the suspect might have a gun in his locker, and that he brought it to school to show it off to his friends, not to harm anyone.

A starter pistol is commonly used to start swimming or track events.

School resource officers recently received metal-detecting wands to use when there is reasonable suspicion that a student has a weapon, after 15-year-old Perry Hall High School student Robert W. Gladden Jr. allegedly brought a gun to school and allegedly shot a classmate, Daniel Borowy, critically wounding him.
