Police ID man who died after car hit tree in Cockeysville

An early-morning crash in Cockeysville on Wednesday claimed the life of one man and sent another to the hospital.

Joshua G. Gustin, 34, of the 900 block of Crosswind Place in Cockeysville, was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene at 5:16 a.m. He was a passenger in a Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Stephen C. Kirsch Jr., 23, of the unit block of Valley Frost Court, also in Cockeysville.

The accident occurred about 5 a.m., when Kirsch veered off the road and struck a tree at the intersection of Old York Road and Glenberry Court, north of Paper Mill Road, police said. Police said speed was a factor in the accident. The impact split the car into two pieces, police said. Kirsch was taken to Sinai Hospital, where he is being treated for injuries that are not life threatening, police said.
