A 65-year-old Linthicum man who molested a 9-year-old girl and exchanged more than 200 text messages with an undercover detective pretending to be her pleaded guilty Thursday to using a cell phone to coerce a minor to engage in sexual activity, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Rod Rosenstein's office.
David Mitchell Rowe admitted to police that he had molested the girl and other young girls in past years, and that he is attracted to minors, the prosecutor's office said.
According to the plea agreement, Rowe met the girl at a hotel pool in Linthicum in 2011 and spent time with her over the course of a few days, during which time he exposed himself to and molested the girl.
Before the girl's family checked out, Rowe gave a lifeguard a bag to deliver to the girl, which the lifeguard gave to the girl's father. Inside were a money clip with the name "Dave" written on it and a picture of Rowe with his address and phone numbers written on the back with a note that said, "Write, Call or Text please."
Police were notified, and the detective began a text message conversation with Rowe pretending to be the girl, in which Rowe acknowledged the girl's age and said he wanted to have sex with her.
Rowe faces from 10 years to life in prison. He must also register as a sex offender.
