Southwest Baltimore district detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that killed a 19-year-old man late Wednesday.
Police were summoned to the 3800 block of Old Frederick Road in the Saint Joseph's area at about 11 p.m. where they found the man with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was transported to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he died just before midnight, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.
Police would not release his name until next of kin are notified. Homicide detectives have no suspect or motive and are asking anyone with information to call investigators at 410-396-2100.
At about 7 p.m. Wednesday, a 20-year-old woman was shot in the left leg in the 2600 block of Wilkens Avenue in another unrelated city shooting. She had walked into a hospital for her injuries, and police expect her to survive.
Police said she told detectives an initial story at the hospital that didn't match her injuries, Det. Vernon Davis said. Asked again, she told investigators that she was in a house with her friend who was handling a gun that "went off," Davis said.
Police arrested the friend, 24-year-old Christopher Lynch, and charged him with discharging a firearm and reckless endangerment. Police did not have a current address for Lynch but said he was last known as living in the same house as the victim, who police did not publicly name because of the pending investigation.
In 2009, Lynch faced several charges including armed robbery, robbery, assault, handgun and theft charges — none of which were prosecuted, according to Maryland court records, which showed he spent 23 days in jail before being released.
