Seven people were injured when an MTA bus jumped a curb, hitting a bus stop shelter near Mondawmin Mall Thursday morning, an agency spokesman said.

A 60-foot hybrid bus drifted across the bus loop, striking the bus stop shelter, said MTA spokesman Terry Owens.

All seven victims were taken to local hospitals for treatment and were released by Thursday afternoon, Owens said.

MTA police and safety officers are investigating what caused the crash, he said.

Following department procedure, the operator will be tested for drugs and alcohol, according to a statement from the department. The operator, who has not been identified, has been employed with the MTA since 1997.

Owens said the bus operator had been recently relieved and a second operator, who was involved in the accident, had just taken the wheel.
