A teen boy in Manchester was burned Thursday when he ignited a bundle of fireworks, officials said.
Shortly after noon, the 14-year-old taped together several illegal explosives — firecrackers, bottle rockets and M-80s — and lit them, according to a statement from the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
The boy suffered burns and "trauma injuries" on both hands, the statement said. He was taken to the pediatric unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he was treated for injuries that were not considered life threatening.
Members of the Manchester Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, in the 2400 block of Harvey Gummel Road, in Carroll County. Investigators are trying to determine how the boy acquired the fireworks, the fire marshal's office said.
