Baltimore police officers found a woman lying in a Baltimore side street shortly after sunset Friday. She had been shot in the head.

The woman, whom police have not yet identified, is listed in critical condition and is being treated at a nearby hospital.

Officers found the woman lying in the 300 block of E. 26th St. about 7:05 p.m., according to Sgt. Anthony Smith, a spokesman for the Baltimore City Police Department.

Witnesses reported seeing a black man wearing a red and black jacket with a white hat running south on Guilford Avenue after the shooting. Police are looking for that man; because of the severity of the woman's injuries, homicide detectives are investigating, Smith said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call detectives at 410-396-2100.
