A 24-year-old man who was partially ejected from a vehicle on Route 10 near Interstate 695 in Glen Burnie Jan. 1 is listed in critical but stable condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, Anne Arundel County police officials said.
A statement issued by the police office department Wednesday said that the driver, Daniel Alan Leitner, 24, of 4005 Washington Street in Baltimore, was traveling north on Route 10 and approaching the I-695 interchange when he did not negotiate a curve in the roadway. Police said the vehicle, a 2002 Volkswagen Passat, rotated as it left the roadway and struck a light pole in the area of the passenger door. The vehicle continued up an embankment and struck a bridge support in the passenger side rear corner, police said. The car then rotated and its front struck another bridge support, police said.
Leitner was partially ejected from the vehicle and suffered life-threatening injuries, police said. Paramedics arrived, and Leitner was taken to Shock Trauma. Police said that a preliminary investigation suggests that speed and impairment might have contributed to the crash. The incident is still being investigated, police said.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
