A 41-year-old man died early Monday when his car struck a guard rail and caught fire in Hanover.
The Anne Arundel County police department identified the deceased driver as Vernon Bryant Jr. of the 7500 block of Maiden Head Drive in Hanover.
Officers reported finding a 2011 GMC SUV on fire and severely damaged by the guard rail. Fire crews put out the fire and located the driver inside the vehicle. According to police, he was the only occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers said they don't know why the vehicle struck the guard rail and are continuing to investigate. They ask anyone who witnessed the accident or who may have more information to call the police department at 410-222-8610 or its traffic safety section at 410-222-8573.
