Anne Arundel County police are searching for a dog, possibly an American bull dog, that attacked and seriously wounded a 27-year-old man Tuesday evening in Gambrills.

Police said the man, who was taken by paramedics to Baltimore Washington Medical Center around 6:38 p.m., told them that he was walking on Burns Crossing Road near Dicus Mill Road when a loose dog began following him. As he tried to escape it, he ran across the road, fell and was repeatedly bitten, police said. Police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said he man described a brown and black dog, approximately 100 lbs., with no collar and fatty ripples around its neck, but a witness reported that the dog may have been a shepherd mix with long hair.

The dog was last seen running toward the county landfill. Animal control officers are continuing to look for the dog, and police are asking anyone with information to call 410-222-8900, extension 3016.
