Anne Arundel police have released the identities of the three adults and the child killed in a head-on collision between two vehicles in Glen Burnie on Sunday afternoon.
All victims were pronounced dead on the scene and the two vehicles were nearly unrecognizable after the crash on Marley Neck Boulevard near Freeman Shores Road about 1:36 p.m.
Preliminary investigation suggests that a vehicle traveling northbound on Marley Neck Boulevard attempted to pass traffic across a double yellow line in a no passing zone and struck a car traveling south.
The driver of the northbound Mazda sedan was Joseph Allen Oliver Jr., 30, of the 900 block of Blakistone Road in Glen Burnie. Crystal Jean Benton, 18, of the 3400 block of Sudlersville Road in Laurel, a passenger in the car, was ejected during the impact.
Oliver's vehicle, a Mazda sedan, struck a southbound car, which then turned over. His car continued north after the collision for another 100 feet before it broke apart in the southbound lane. Its engine was found in a wooded area off the roadway.
The impact pushed the overturned Pontiac Grand-Am back about 75 feet before the car stopped on the east side of the road. Brittney Marie Ziegler, 21, of the 8400 block of Bedford Road in Pasadena was driving and her passenger was 3-year-old Lilly Renee Gross of the 200 block of Crain Court Circle in Glen Burnie. Police did not disclose their relationship.
Excessive speed by the first vehicle is considered a major contributing factor, police said. The department's Traffic Safety Section has yet to determine whether drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash and is continuing the investigation.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
