Annapolis man arrested in string of hit-and-runs

Annapolis police arrested a man Saturday in connection with a string of five hit-and-run accidents involving cars and a house along a 2-mile stretch of roads in Annapolis.

Police responded at 1:58 p.m. to an accident at Hilltop Lane and Boxwood Road and were told that the other vehicle involved, a green Ford Expedition, had fled the scene. While investigating the incident, police received a call regarding another hit-and-run involving a green Ford Expedition at Forest Drive and Gemini Drive.

Within minutes, additional calls were received for accidents along Forest Drive at South Cherry Grove Avenue and Bywater Road, each involving a green Ford Expedition. Another call reported a green Expedition crashing into a house on the 700 block of Bywater Road.

Police arrested Eric Castranova, 29, of Annapolis, and charged him with driving under the influence, driving while intoxicated, first- and second-degree assault, four counts of leaving the scene of an accident and multiple traffic citations. Bystanders said they saw Castranova flee the SUV after it crashed into the house and pointed him out to police officers after they responded and found the vehicle empty.

Castranova was being held at the county detention center on $300,000 bond.
