A Florida-based federal security contractor warned that it would lay off nearly 100 people at two government facilities in Maryland by the end of September as a result of Army contracts that are not being renewed.

G4S Government Solutions Inc., which provides security guards for federal installations and agencies, notified Maryland's Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation on Thursday that it would lay off 62 employees at Fort Meade in Anne Arundel County when its contract expires Sept. 30.

The company also warned DLLR that it expected to lay off 31 employees at Walter Reed Army Medical Center's Forest Glen Annex in Silver Spring by the end of September.

According to USASpending.gov, G4S has 46 federal contracts worth nearly $84 million, mostly providing security services to government agencies. Most of the contracts were signed earlier this year, according to the site.

Susan Pitcher, a G4S spokeswoman, said the Army this year did not offer a new contract for G4S and other companies to bid on for work at Walter Reed and Fort Meade.
