The communications giant will be the sole "presenting" sponsor of Star-Spangled 200 Inc., the nonprofit affiliate of the Maryland War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission, which is planning a three-year commemoration. Events will kick off with an international maritime festival and air show in June at the Inner Harbor and will run through February 2015.
Additional sponsors, which contributed between $500,000 and $1 million each, include Papa John's and two other companies to be announced next month, said a spokeswoman for the nonprofit group.
The AT&T brand will be included in advertising campaigns and signage at events designed to honor the state's role in the nation's history and in the battle that inspired "The Star-Spangled Banner."
AT&T employs about 1,600 people in the state.
