The pumpkins are flying this weekend in Bridgeville, Delaware despite Superstorm Sandy.
Rains from the storm are making things muddy in some places, but the annual Punkin Chunkin contest is underway.
The competition involves a variety of homemade contraptions by teams vying to see which can throw a pumpkin the farthest. The event this weekend marks the 27th consecutive year for the competition.
Last year's winner launched a pumpkin nearly 3,700 feet. The event draws more than 100 teams from across the country and thousands of fans.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
