The state unemployment numbers inched up slightly in August and continues to remain under the national numbers, according to the Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.5 percent, up two-tenths of a percentage point from July’s rate.
“The rate’s volatility in recent months is common for preliminary rates, and August’s increase is not big enough by itself to suggest a change in 2013’s overall trend,” said Caroline Schultz, state economist.
The national unemployment rate was 7.3 percent last month.
