Governor Sean Parnell ordered state flags to be lowered to half-staff on Tuesday, September 17 in honor of the late state senator Bill Ray.
Ray served in the Alaska Legislature for 22 years representing Juneau, beginning with his 1964 election to House of Representatives. Six years later, he was elected to the Senate, where he served until 1986. He held positions on the Alcoholic Beverage Control Board and the Federal Fish and Game Advisory Board.
On September 9, he died at age 91 in Washington where he retired. He is survived by his wife and two children.
