Air Force Airman Jordan R. Gese graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Gese is the son of Lisa and Joe Gese of Aberdeen and a 2011 graduate of Central High School.
Rachel Carlsen of Aberdeen, a student at AIB College of Business in Des Moines, Iowa, has been honored as Presidential Scholar for the 2011 fall term. To be named a scholar, Carlsen attained a grade point average of 3.80 or higher for the term. She is earning an Associate in Applied Science degree in steno transcription.
Carlsen was also among 90 students who honored the memory of Martin Luther King Jr., by serving the Des Moines community, participating in hands-on volunteer activities, including assembling 84 alphabet books for early learning centers in Des Moines; producing 570 school awards for Des Moines public schools; making 80 paper rolls for the cages at the Animal Rescue League; and writing 40 “Letters of Inspiration” to homeless people at Central Iowa Shelter and Service.
Army National Guard Spec. Katie R. Wegleitner has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla. Wegleitner is the daughter of Dan and Catherine Wegleitner and sister of Carrie and Steven Wegleitner of Lake City. She is a 2011 graduate of Britton-Hecla High School.
Cadet Herbert Jockheck has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2011 semester at the U.S. Military Academy. Jockheck is a 2008 graduate of Redfield High School and will be commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army upon graduation at West Point in 2012.
Tara Brink (4.0), Alicia Guthmiller and Abby Kelsey of Aberdeen and Olivia Baer (4.0) of Ipswich were named to the fall 2011 dean’s list at the Minnesota State University in Mankato.
Hannah Lynn Wickard of Mina was named to the fall 2011 dean’s list at Anderson University in Anderson, Ind.

Jesse Habeck were named to the fall 2011 President’s List at Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls.
Jacob Harrison Fuhrman of Aberdeen was named to the fall 2011 dean’s list at Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill.
Fuhrman is a senior at Wheaton and pursuing a degree in pipe organ performance.
In addition to his studies, he plays organ at his local church and harpsichord and pipe organ as a guest performer with the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra. He is the son of Dr. Bill and Lynne Fuhrman of Aberdeen.

To earn this distinction, a cadet must maintain a 3.0 average in all courses. Fuhrman graduated from Aberdeen Christian School in 2009 and will be commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army upon graduation at West Point.
