The Aberdeen Wings will introduce their new head coach on Monday
The introduction of the new coach will be at 6 p.m. at Max and Erma’s Restaurant. This event is free and open to the public.
Coach Pete Sauer was fired as the Wings’ coach on Dec. 17 after the team had slipped into last place in the six-team Central Division of the North American Hockey League. Assistant coach Garrett Strot was promoted to interim head coach, but the team hasn’t won a game under Strot.
Aberdeen hasn’t won a game since Nov. 30 and is currently on a 14-game winless streak, the longest active streak in the NAHL. Aberdeen is currently 8-24-4 after getting swept this past weekend by the Bismarck Bobcats.
The Aberdeen Wings are in their third season of play in the NAHL, a USA Hockey-sanctioned Tier II Junior A league. Players are age 16 to 20. They are amateurs who do not get paid, but instead play to earn college scholarships or advance in the amateur leagues.
