The news keeps getting worse for the struggling Marlins.
After taking batting practice before Saturday's game against the Rays, outfielder Mike Stanton told manager Edwin Rodriguez that he was having trouble seeing out of his right eye and Stanton was scratched from the lineup.
"He said it has been bothering him a while but today it was getting worse," Rodriguez said.
The Marlins said Stanton has an eye infection.
Stanton was 0-for-4 Friday, 2-for-19 in his last five games. He is hitting .247 and leads the Marlins with 16 home runs.
"It is hard to hit a baseball when you are 100 percent. I can't imagine what he has been going through," Rodriguez said. "I am sure he doesn't want to accept that, but I am pretty sure that has something to do with it."
The Marlins had lost eight straight games and 19 of their last 22 going into Saturday's game at Tropicana Field.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
