DSU is celebrating this 40th anniversary this year. Founded in 1965, the school was called Allentown College of St. Francis de Sales. It was originally created to educate Catholic men but in 1970 it became co-educational. In 2000, the school received permission from the Pennsylvania Department of Education to create a university, thus the school became DeSales University in honor of “the institution's academic excellence, faculty commitment, Catholic heritage and continued growth in graduate education.”<br>
