Northbound traffic on the Northeast Extension of the Turnpike following a fatal accident around 2:30 a.m. Friday just north of the Lansdale Exit. The northbound lanes between Lansdale and Quakertown were closed for most of the morning while state police investigated the crash, which involved two cars and a tanker truck. This Nissan Sentra ended up behind the tanker truck facing south int he northbound lane. Emergency crews cut the roof of the car to free the driver. A gray Nissan Sentra ended up facing south in the northbound lanes to the rear of the tanker truck, which smashed into the back of a compact white car. The crash caused traffic jam on roads around both the Quakertown and Lansdale interchanges. Vehicles on the Turnpike between the Lansdale Exit and the crash were struck for hours because they could not turn around since most of them were tractor-trailers.
