Information in these three-part articles will help you look and feel younger.
Lip liner: As we mature beyond 50, our lips thin. Lip liner defines and redefines the lip line. Liner helps to visually enlarge the lips and keep the lipstick from bleeding. Applying lip liner to the entire lip area will help the lipstick last longer.
Choose a lip liner that is closest to your nude lip color, and not the color of the lipstick. Then apply lipstick over the lip liner. Use moisturizer lightly around lip liner to prevent bleeding.
Lipstick: Sudden Change Lip Base Coat helps to smooth the lips and create a foundation for lipstick. Lipstick should be as warm, cool, light, bright or dark as the eyes. The correct lipstick color will balance and illuminate the eyes. Skin tone and hair color is a main consideration. Avoid lip colors that are too dark, as they will make your lips look smaller. Or, if they're too bright, they will dominate your eyes. Add a dab of shiny lip gloss on the middle of the bottom lip. Use light to medium creamy, shiny lipstick that will reflect light and fullness.
Teeth: Maturity may cause teeth yellowing, graying or receding of gums. Avoid wearing a white fabric that's whiter than the white of your teeth or they will look more yellow. Good dental care is essential. Crest Advanced Seal Whitening Strips are quick and inexpensive, but cannot be used on porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers over teeth are an option.
Hands/chest freckles: Aging hands often have prominent veins and sunspots. Veins can be minimized by an injection of a dermal filler called Sculpture. Porcelana with 2% hydroquinone can be helpful in reducing sunspots on hands and freckles on the chest; 4% hydroquinone is stronger and is a prescription-based product. Sunscreen is essential to protect the body. All sunscreens need to have UVA and UVB protection with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. A dermatologist-preferred sunscreen is Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen, which can be obtained at your local drug store.
Brushes: Good cosmetic brushes are essential for makeup application: a stiff angular eyeliner/eyebrow brush, concealer brush for camouflage cream, blush brush for powder blush, and three eye shadow brushes (for base, brow and lid).
A vibrant positive attitude, straight posture, high energy, a beautiful smile, a solid purpose, and the ability to extend yourself to others will also keep you young and beautiful. Outward beauty is an externalization of inner harmony.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
