Ten Years AgoA city ad hoc committee was in the process of determining the best use for the former Caltrans lot on Foothill Boulevard adjacent to the Glendale (2) Freeway onramp. While a community survey showed a preference for additional sports facilities, neighbors of the property were calling for a quieter use, such as a senior-citizen-friendly park. Today the property is home to Mayors' Discovery Park.

Twenty Years AgoThe Crocker National Bank building at 2200 Foothill Blvd. was demolished to make way for a new Pier One Imports store. The developer was Gary Zentmyer.

Thirty Years AgoIn order to make up a $500,000 budget shortfall for the La Cañada Unified School District, the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation embarked on a campaign seeking $500 each from 1,000 local families.

Forty Years AgoA security guard at a Flintridge Avenue estate reported to police that he had been fired upon twice by a teenage boy late on a Saturday night. The guard said he returned fire, apparently scaring off the suspect and his companion.

Fifty Years AgoWorkmen completed installation of a new stained-glass window in the sanctuary at La Cañada Presbyterian Church.
