1. Pat Riley replaces Paul Westhead as head coach on Nov. 19, and the Lakers win 17 of the next 20 games.

2. Mitch Kupchak suffers a severe knee injury and is out for the season. Lakers sign Bob McAdoo to replace Kupchak.

3. For the second time in three seasons, the Lakers defeat Philadelphia to win the NBA title.

4. The Lakers win the first of nine consecutive Pacific Division titles.

5. Magic Johnson is named MVP of the regular season and of the NBA Finals.
